Cookout + Dog

Madeline started off her day with the usual tummy + Petey time.

I dropped her off at daycare, which was unusually slow and quiet. Apparently the daycare folks took advantage of their positive staff-to-child ratio to spend lots of time outside. They also reported to Summer at pickup that Madeline had had an excellent day.

The good mood carried over to home.

We had a couple of friends over for grilling this evening. As we set up in the yard, Madeline seemed concerned.

She tried to console herself by sucking her thumb AND grabbing her foot at the same time.

Ultimately, mama proved sufficiently comforting.

Friends Julia and Ceci arrived in due time with Ceci's dog Rainy Day in tow. Madeline found Rainy just as exciting as Petey and gave her big smiles! But Rainy's a little shy.

Rainy spent lots of time hiding behind Ceci, and Madeline spent lots of time trying to charm her with smiles.

Rainy eventually obliged with a few licks, but both her and Madeline's social tendencies were dampened by the camera, which we finally retired without capturing the smiley scene.

Madeline was a trooper, and stayed up in the yard until the sun went down.
