Hats, books & peanut allergy

Today was a doozy.

In the morning I took care of Madeline (who had to stay home from daycare due to yesterday's fever).  She spent most of her time either finding hats and telling me that they were hats or finding books and bringing them to me to read.  We also went for a driving nap.

Here we are about to embark on the driving nap.  Note that Madeline is excitedly waving a hat around.

And here we are reading a book.  The zoo sent an elephant, but it's too big to keep!

Then Summer and I switched: I went into the office, and Madeline told Summer about hats.  Here she is placing a cracker on her head and calling it a hat.  (Alas, instead of doing her cutest version of the word, where she enunciates the "h" and holds it for a second, in the video she barely makes the "h" sound at all.)

As a special home-sick-from-school treat, Summer made Madeline ants on a log.  Then her top lip swelled up and she broke out in hives and we all wound up at an urgent care center.  Looks like Madeline might well have a peanut allergy.

The room where the medical folks saw Madeline was decked out with decals: Spider-Man, Cinderella, and Curious George.  Curious George often appeared with his human friend's famous Yellow Hat.  This excited Madeline, who pointed it out and said hat.

Anyway, we now have to make an appointment with an allergist and perhaps consign ourselves to a significantly less peanut-enriched life than we might otherwise have pursued.  In the meantime, though, Madeline (albeit still maintaining a fever when not on ibuprofen) is her usual happy little self.
