Madeline's day began with a quiet morning at home.
She went to her box of books, discarded two, picked out "Oh the Places You'll Go!," and held it out to me. I couldn't help but read it to her.
Around 11 we left so she could take a car nap; around noon we arrived at Save the Bay headquarters for our first Saturday of volunteer seal-counting. This week's count: 0.
Seals or no seals, Madeline had a good time.
After that, we headed down to Rome Point to stretch our legs and see whether there might be some seals closer to the mouth of the bay.
There were no seals, but there were all sorts of neat shells: lady's slippers, lobster claws, oysters, scallops, whelks, and, of course, clams.
Madeline led the way back to the car as the sun set.
Nature is starting to fool us into thinking every January weekend features a sunny day where the weather tops out in the mid-50s. We're happy to play along as long as it keeps up!
