Games

Today was a rainy day two of whose hours I spent on the phone with the IT folks from work, trying to render my court-issued laptop fully functional. I also did some paperwork I'd been neglecting. And the gas man came by to bang and clank in the basement for a bit. This is the sort of otherwise-blah day that baby has the capacity to make better, for instance by playing the funny-face game. (And today the better-ness was only augmented, I'm sure, by Summer's tending to baby's demands while I dealt with other things.)

Silly:

Serious:

Splayed-out, napping baby is a spirit-booster, too.

But best of all was this evening, when Summer derived a game that baby played with gusto. As baby gazed deeply into Summer's eyes, Summer would draw in an exaggerated deep breath, then puff it out audibly. A beat would pass. Then baby would draw in an exaggerated deep breath and puff it out audibly. This went on for several repetitions, and you can tell from her expression that baby was very much engaged:

Tomorrow the weather should be nice, so we'll probably spend more time outside, but now I'm looking forward to the next rainy inside day, too. Outside is good for exploration and experiential learning, but it turns out that inside days have great potential -- what games will our next bout of concentrated together time produce?

  1. Wonderful! You might try "fish face". All babies seem to be entranced by this one...you, especially enjoyed it at a tender young age. You make a sort of figure 8 with your lips, rather sucking them into the center. Then you make them go sort of up and down. Do you remember it now? Give it a try...it is fun to watch the little ones try to copy what you are doing. xoxo N
