Fussy, funny, wired

As Madeline has become more aware of her surroundings and more eager to test her physical capabilities, she also seems to get increasingly frustrated by the limitations of infant-hood. And whether aware, in motion, or frustrated, she often has more energy than she can figure out how to expend.

Today she was definitely high-energy and also fairly fussy. But she still made time for more pleasant pursuits like making funny faces. In particular, she presented quite a routine on waking up from one of her naps. I can't even characterize her expressions in words; here are two:

Also, she happily acceded to a walk to Seven Stars (yum, somehow their chocolate-almond croissants seem to get better every time). The nice weather allowed us to sit outside among woodwork climbing with what appeared to be roses. No blossoms yet, of course.

Back at home, Madeline and I chilled out on the futon (until the fussiness kicked in again).

Once night fell, Madeline was still wired. We saw a lot of this face.

Everything is far too interesting for Madeline to give up time to unfortunately necessary sleep. I can commiserate, but I still hope that she'll embrace going to sleep more readily soon. On the other hand, though, she's still pretty great about staying asleep at night; for now maybe I'll just be (very) happy for that.
