Last night's rain cleared, and a beautiful day opened up. Summer took the Sprout outside to bask in the glorious morning as soon as the Sprout woke.
We ran into friend Bjorn and his little boy, out on a playground-scouting tour of the neighborhood. He observed, and we agreed, that a baby's cry seems by some acoustic trick to cancel out the sound of one's partner's voice. Then the Sprout said she'd like some breakfast, and we went back inside.
It didn't take long for the grandparents to join us, and aunt and uncle emerged shortly after. The Sprout reveled in her renewed attention, greeting grandma with big smiles!
When all were ready and the Sprout had fed,we headed to Olga's for brunch. The weather, sunny and mid-sixties, meant the fully open Olga's patio was packed; we had to settle for inside. The Sprout was ok with this -- she slept, fed, and serenely allowed herself to be passed around.
Next on the agenda was the Roger Williams Park Zoo! Just about all the animals were out enjoying the sun, and most were busily going about whatever sort of spring business they had to take care of. An elephant (Alice, I think) went for a swim, the binturongs clambered about smelling distinctly of buttered popcorn, and the snow leopards groomed one another affectionately. Again the Sprout slept through most of the good stuff. Grandma got a photo of the rest of us posed with a camel in our midst.
A little later someone snapped a nice one of me, uncle, and a few sneaky baby fingers. I think we're by the red pandas.
Given the above picture, it should come as no surprise that my head ended up sun-burnt, though it does seem to have provided sufficient shade to protect the Sprout's sensitive skin.
Back at home the Sprout played with aunt and uncle and again happily acquiesced to being passed around and paid plenty of attention.
