Today I was at work, but Madeline seems not to have minded: Summer left me plenty of smiley pictures to work with.

And Madeline smiled.

Then at some point she acquired her cheetah friend and smiled some more.

She paused to gnaw on her hand.

And then smiled her very biggest smile!

She tried to gnaw on a rattle, but forgot that it helps to use hands...

And that's all I know about her day. When I came home, she was still pretty smiley. We had dinner and then she had a bath, which she enjoyed as usual.

After her bath, though, she was very grumpy and wouldn't eat. For some reason, sitting on my lap quelled the screaming.

But that was not a sustainable solution -- we couldn't stay like that all night. And she still seemed pretty grumpy. We knew she was tired. So finally we
combined esses again and got her enough sleep to allow for a peaceful night-feeding an hour or so later. She seemed to take an extra-long meal -- perhaps a precursor to an extra-long night's sleep?
