Ain't it the life?

This morning, Madeline colored before school.

And this evening, she hung out with Summer and Petey while I made dinner.

Blender dance

After a couple days of life adjustments (and no pictures), things are getting to normal at Casa Allgreen.  Madeline eats her breakfast excitedly ...

... and after school she's just as happy.  Tonight she did a dance to the blender's beat as Summer prepped a fish curry!

Thanksgiving-related festivities

Wednesday, we took off from Providence in the middle of the day and ended up in Delaware some seven and a half hours later.  Madeline slept in the car, woke up just enough to say hello, and then went back to sleep.

Thursday was Thanksgiving!  Madeline made friends with Bridget.

We all went to Maclary Elementary, where Madeline swung on the swings ...

... and slid on the slide ...

... and hoarded playground balls ...

... and saw "Deer running!  Deer running in forest."

After a nap, Madeline fancified for the Thanksgiving feast.

At Nanny and Pop Pop's house, Madeline snuggled up with Uncle Alex ...

... and with Pop Pop!

She filled up on crackers and cheese and crab-filled mushroom caps and fruit cup, so when dinner arrived she seemed a little daunted by her full plate.

In fact, she was even too full for any pie -- but she did share in plenty of familial love and affection.

Friday, Madeline got to hang out with cousin Hailey!  Like last year, the two took a little time to figure one another out.  But this year, everyone was old enough for fun times and big smiles (credit Uncle David for the photo).

There was even a wagon ride (and, later, pizza) in the deal.

Today, so far, we've visited Winterthur (including the Enchanted Woods) and had lunch with Great Grandpa Royce, and Madeline's taken a three-hour nap.  I forgot my camera, but here's a photo from the Enchanted Woods courtesy of Grandma Susy.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'll produce a proper post when I've had a chance to take pictures off the camera. For now, I hope everyone's had a very happy Thanksgiving!

The Carrot Seed

Madeline insisted on reading, then reading again, then one more reading of The Carrot Seed before heading out the door this morning.

This evening I had to go back to work for a bit, but I hear Madeline had fun pretending to be a doctor and washing all her bath toys with a wash cloth.

Sock-hands!

This morning Madeline had waffles and pigtails and socks on her hands!

This evening, Madeline hugged her Elmo card ...

... and she played with stickers -- serious business.

Bath to bay to ocean

Friday night, Madeline took a bath with lots of bubbles!

On Saturday, we went to India Point Park.  Madeline wanted to see the ocean but had to settle for the head of the Narragansett Bay instead.

India Point features a waterfront playground with swings ...

... and a boat ...

... and a fun rope web!

The park also features a set of stairs leading to a pedestrian bridge over Interstate 195 to Providence's east side.  The top of the stairs affords an excellent view of the bay.  I told Madeline how the stairs and bridge are planted with grasses to clean rainwater before it flows into the bay.  She said "Maddie clean grass!" and proceeded to scrub.

We also took advantage of the view (though the picture below is from the lowest landing).

Today, Madeline got her visit to the ocean!

The lead-up to our trip took too long for Madeline, who resorted to sitting upside down on the futon.

Just before we left, when Madeline was all bundled up for the voyage, we took a moment to play dinosaur.  "Roar!"

A car nap later, we were walking on Scarborough Beach.  Madeline took a little while to shake off her naptime grogginess.

But she soon found herself interested in things like seagulls, skate egg cases ...

...

... and cool rocks.

We proceeded from Scarborough to Galilee for chowder, clam cakes, and a view of the harbor.  There were no seals yet, but we saw a ferry depart and some fishing boats (complete with swarms of seagulls) come in.

And we caught a spectacular sunset too, arriving home in fall's early darkness.

Pigtails, seafood, and cake

This morning Summer successfully pigtail-ified Madeline!

Whether Madeline kept them all day or someone at daycare had to re-pigtail-ify her, she had them again at pickup this afternoon.

Today is Summer's birthday, so I made Portuguese-style seafood paella -- yum!

Madeline liked singing happy birthday and eating clams ...

... but she liked the birthday cake best of all!

Twenty-one months!

Madeline is twenty-one months old today.  I've already more or less abandoned the month system; I tell people she's "almost two" or "not quite two."  But she still gets her monthly chair pictures!

Here's a link to the first twelve months; here's thirteen; here's fourteen; here's fifteen; here's sixteen; here's seventeen (you have to scroll down); here's eighteen; and here's twenty.

Three-day weekend with lots of playing!

Saturday morning, Madeline went to the Humboldt Avenue playground.  She spent most of her time digging in the sandbox but finished up on her favorite piece of equipment -- the swing set.

We went to the grocery store, and Madeline helped!  She carried a jar of olives through the store and a two-pack of paper towel rolls into the house.

Later Saturday afternoon, Madeline's great uncle David and friend Sally stopped by for a pleasant visit on their way to Connecticut.  We finished off the evening by running out to get sundries -- a sweater for me, socks for Summer, warm pajamas for Madeline, and an impulse buy of an elephant stool -- and dining on delicious Mexican food.

Sunday, Madeline bonded with friends.  In the morning it was Petey ...

... and her stuffed owl (which she's named "Daddy").

Then it was school friends Ilan ...

... and David.

We all met up at Roger Williams Park and enjoyed the park's giant playground (our first visit there) -- fun!  The playground was apparently sponsored by Rhode Island company Hasbro, hence this giant Mr. Potato Head.

In the afternoon, Madeline put on a far more impressive athletic performance than our sad-sack Philadelphia Eagles.  She really likes to climb on top of her new elephant stool!

Today, Summer had to work.  Madeline and I spent the morning first at the Humboldt playground (Madeline played house and used the toy kitchen to make "leaf tacos") and then at Blackstone park, where we admired the Seekonk River (as Madeline called it, "Ocean!").

We also met lots of dogs -- why, it looks like some dogs are coming!

The rest of the day was dominated by a monster nap, followed by a return trip to Providence to pick up Summer, pizza for dinner, and finally a delayed bedtime so Madeline could say hi to visiting friends Sara and Jesse!
