Baby jail and new tooth

Now that Madeline's crawling, she wants to check everything out up close. I snapped her approaching the camera; when I put the camera away, she went for my coffee mug.

That said, sometimes the simple things still captivate her above all else -- for example, my water bottle.

After a slow morning, we took our usual march to the farmers market and back. At home again, we decided it might be beneficial to set up a baby jail. Madeline was pleased with this new toy.

Next up was a trip to Home Depot for some baby-proofing supplies -- outlet covers and cabinet locks -- as well as a foam mat for the floor of Madeline's baby jail. Madeline rode in the cart for the first time, and had a blast!

The foam mat went over well, too.

All in all, Madeline has provided an unequivocal vote of confidence in her baby jail with its climbing walls, foam floor, and limitless stock of toys.

But there's one thing she's not sure about -- one of her bottom front teeth has begun to emerge for real (finally!). There's still not much there other than a bit of missing gum and a very hard spot, but Madeline still seems somewhat perplexed at this development. And so she spends a bit time here and there thoughtfully chewing her tongue.

Finally, the three of us spent the evening sitting for Alexander, who very graciously shared toys with Madeline and also made her laugh and laugh ... until Madeline sprawled out across Summer's lap, asleep, and Alexander followed not long after.
