Quite a full day

This morning Madeline was excited for the farmers market!

Once loaded into her stroller, she continued to smile.

And the farmers market itself didn't disappoint. Wishing Stone Farm (where we have our CSA) is in the background.

We again got lunch from Hewtin's Dogs Mobile and ate in the park.

Madeline was more interested in chewing my finger than in the delicious fare from the Dogs Mobile.

She tried out her shades.

And she had a diaper disaster that necessitated a change from bird to dinosaurs (just like Jack Horner wants to do!).

She fell asleep on the walk home and stayed asleep in the yard.

While she slept we first watered the garden and then transferred her to the car for a trip to Bristol.

This weekend the Rozalia Project has been visiting Bristol's Hereshoff Museum. The Rozalia folks boat around the northeast using a remote-operated vehicle to find and gather trash from the sea bed. They aim to clean up the coast, to collect data and determine coastal areas most afflicted with debris, to develop a model for others interested in addressing marine pollution, and to educate the public on the problem. On this last point, they've been on a "Trash Tour" of New England ports, doing presentations primarily aimed at children. We caught them, though, at what was essentially an open house. They gave us a rundown of the project and a tour of the boat (the American Promise, which -- to quote Sports Illustrated -- once "sailed ... around the world nonstop in a record-shattering 150 days" before becoming a Navy training vessel), and showed us the ROV at work in Bristol Harbor.

It was a beautiful afternoon for some learnin'.

This was Madeline's first time on a boat, and, as usual when it comes to new experiences, she wasn't sure what to make of things.

By the end of the experience, she was really hungry.

Madeline ate and then we returned to Providence to pick up food (delicious cheese from Farmstead) and drink for us and friends Heiða and Bjorn, who'd invited us for dinner.

After dinner Heiða and Bjorn showed us to a large neighborhood park where their little one likes to play. Madeline's sitting prowess convinced us that she was probably ready to try an upright swing. As with the boat, she wasn't sure what to make of this new thing.

She seemed eventually to enjoy the swing, but soon the hour was getting late. By the time we made it home she was very ready for her bedtime routine, even though it was only 7:30 or so. This makes sense: today was quite a full day.
