Madeline knew this morning that today would be a special day.
She was excited for her mother, who tried to choke down an English muffin despite her nerves.
And an exciting day it was: by mid-afternoon, following a well-attended talk and a closed thesis-defense session, Summer had become Dr. Allen!
There followed a party at Brown and then a bigger party at our house. Madeline went to sleep during the second party, but woke back up as the final wind-down was taking place. Summer couldn't get her back to sleep unless they retained physical contact, so she brought a bundled Madeline out and decompressed with the remaining family.
But Madeline woke up again, and I seized the opportunity to take a posed group-shot. Here you go:
