Marc's departure, Jesse's party

Today, before leaving to go back to Ireland, Uncle Marc read to a sleepy Madeline.

When we dropped Marc at the train station, Madeline again wailed, "No!"  It was again sad.  Because she'd refused an earlier nap, though, she fell asleep not long after.

When she woke up, we were already late for friend Jesse's grad-school graduation party.  We made it there in short order, though, and Madeline tried to pursue a friendship with dog Davis.  For his part, Davis mostly tried to hide under the picnic table -- Madeline is scary.

The day was hot and Madeline was a little cranky from the failed dog-friendship and the heat and the departures and her nap schedule having been thrown off.  So we took our leave and headed home, where Madeline cooled down with some ice cubes as I saw to dinner.

After dinner came a much-appreciated bath ...

... followed by an equally well-appreciated early bedtime.
