Rainy day

Madeline and Summer started this rainy day with a Very Hungry Caterpillar reading in the nursery. Madeline stayed calm (if not entirely interested in the book), perhaps because she wasn't a hundred percent awake yet.

With the windows offering nothing but gray skies and drumming rain all day, we weren't terribly motivated to get outside. Instead, we traded off intervals of childcare duties and otherwise productive time. My capacity for childcare was somewhat limited, though, as Madeline absolutely would not take a bottle with Summer nearby.

The day passed with smiles and naps and plenty of feedings (notwithstanding Madeline's unwillingness to take a bottle). Lately, Madeline has been especially fond of funny faces -- here she is appreciating one of Summer's.

This evening we thought we'd brave the rain and try taking Madeline along to LJ's -- a low-key barbecue joint that we've frequented over the years, and whose servers had asked us back when Summer was pregnant to bring future-Madeline by when the time was right. Madeline seemed ready to go along with the plan ...

... but as it turned out, the time was not right. On the way over, Madeline asked loudly and insistently why we'd dragged her out in the rain and wouldn't Summer feed her, please? So Summer did, and I ran into the grocery store to get some prepared food instead of delicious barbecue. We'll have to try again another day.

  1. Great photos! That first picture could be titled "She's Mine!!!" Does your library contain "The Little Engine That Could?" When does she get to meet her Uncle Owlex and Steph?
