Real sprouts

Last night did not bring much sleep. Madeline never seemed to settle totally, so our efforts to attain at least a basic operational status lasted well into morning. When we finally emerged from our lair, the rest of the apartment was fully daylit.

Petey had made a nest in the baby basket, and we decided to see whether he'd accommodate an interloper. The answer, surprisingly, was yes.

Madeline was nonplussed.

Petey hopped out after a few minutes. Now holding our undivided attention, Madeline presented a panoply of amusing facial expressions. Here's one:

While Summer took a shower, I tried giving Madeline some tummy time. She's been doing so well lifting and holding her head up lately that I wondered whether she'd made more physical strides. It turns out the answer is yes: she rolled over from front to back! Given that the proverbial "they" say rolling over is normal at 2-3 months, I still can't quite believe it.

After a very late lunch (for us and then for her), Madeline graciously declared her willingness to acquiesce to another walk with a yawn and a pair of steadily narrowing eyes. Noting the sun and the 40+ degree weather, we excursed once again.

Even though she was asleep, Madeline insisted on sticking at least one finger out of her wrap.

Sleep-deprived Summer had elected a return to our friendly neighborhood caffeine-purveyor, the Edge, so that's where we went. Today a few people oohed and aahed over Madeline while we awaited and then sipped our chai (Summer) and mocha (me). Baby stirred a bit but stayed asleep.

On the walk back she put out two fingers.

And we saw lots of real sprouts. Spring is coming!

  3. We used to "exercise" your Father so that he would learn how to role over. I hate to tell you how old he was when he finally did! That was our jolly evening pastime before his bedtime our first few months in Norfolk. Three weeks is very, very early. I am loving your posts and pictures and can't tell you how much your efforts are appreciated xoxo N
