Last night, again, sleep was not forthcoming. Poor Summer had to feed Madeline every hour or two, and each feeding was preceded (and intermittently punctuated) by baby's trademark terse shout. Then around 7:30, Madeline managed to soil herself, her clothes, her changing pad, and the wall, among other sundries. I cleaned up and then put on a pot of coffee and rocked her for a while so Summer could try to catch up after a rough night. Madeline caught up on her sleep, too, while I read about container gardening. Once we were all up, the morning passed in a haze.
Thankfully, doula Sev came to rescue us around 11; she made lunch (and dinner!) and then looked after baby while Summer rested and I went for a long-overdue run.
Although Madeline remained either feeding or fussy for most of the day, she provided some fun moments, too. On high-alert after a feeding this evening, she decided to get a good look at these "parents" of hers and to exercise her limbs.
So she stretched ...
... and stared ...
